SoftLayer is expanding internationally with a data center scheduled to open in Amsterdam in 2011.

 

Reporting to the General Manager, Europe the Sr. Sales Engineer (SE) provides customers and sales reps with technical product advice and support during pre-sales discussions. This individual will solve complex sales support problems and answer detailed product questions from both prospects and salespersons.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Technical pre-sales support
  • Work with sales and sales management to formulate strategies on key accounts.
  • Take ownership of technical sales for creating solutions for customers. This includes technical qualification, presentations, demonstrations, running performance tests, and directing the efforts of other systems engineers in these activities.
  • Design and demonstrate customized demonstrations of SoftLayer’s solutions.
  • Write technical white papers on topics pertaining to SoftLayer technologies and market niches.
  • Analyze product capabilities and limitations in areas of expertise with respect to competitive products.
  • Content development for one or more SE training events.
  • Systems Engineer Specialist and/or Platform Expert fulfill the roles and responsibilities of an SE Specialist. Influence the product line’s technical direction from a corporate standpoint.

 

 

 

Required Experience

 

  • Minimum 6 years of pre-sales technical experience
  • Minimum 4 years of Systems Administration experience in a dedicated hosting company, managed hosting company, managed services company, or a mid to large IT environment
  • Maintain strong technical knowledge of more than one platform (e.g. Microsoft Windows, Linux, Databases, etc.).
  • Maintain strong technical knowledge of cloud and virtualization strategies (e.g. VMware, Microsoft HyperV, Citrix XenServer, etc.)
  • A solid understanding of hosting and the business objectives for IT outsourcing
  • Excellent customer service, written, verbal and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Travel up to 100% may be required.
  • Must have and maintain at least one platform (e.g. MCSE, RHCE, VCE), technology and/or security certification (e.g. CISSP).
  • Bachelor degree or higher in computer science, information systems, or related area; or demonstrated equivalent related work experience.
  • Must be a citizen of the EU, or in possession of a Dutch work permit.
